| In 1974, Graeme Leith and Sue Mackinnon planted the first vines at Passing Clouds, 60 km northwest of Bendigo. Graeme is one of the great personalities of the wine industry, with a superb sense of humour, and he makes lovely regional reds with cassis, berry and mint fruit. With the passing of years (and clouds), Graeme is gradually handing over winemaking responsibilities to son Cameron, and 2010 saw the move of the winery operations to Musk - where the clouds do a little less passing. The move makes the winery the closest to Daylesford (only 6 kilometres) and a move up from 770 feet (in Kingower) to 770 meters ASL.
They still produce their acclaimed Bendigo reds for which they have built a strong and loyal following over the years, but the range is now complemented by cool climate Pinot Noirs, Chardonnay and Sparkling.
The fruit is meticulously cared for as naturally as possible, there are several passes of each vine per season, ensuring every bunch is in the optimum position. As winemakers we guide the fruit from vineyard into bottle gently, using traditional winemaking techniques.
Passing Clouds wine is available via cellar email or from the new cellar door - every day: 11am - 5pm.
